RECENT PROJECTS
As a member of the Communications team at National Geographic, I developed integrated and proactive strategies to increase awareness of the brand’s programmatic priorities and led day-to-day publicity across National Geographic Society initiatives.
Below, please find a few of my recent project highlights.
In 2019, I oversaw marketing and communications for an all-female expedition to the Ganges River in India and Bangladesh to study plastic waste. This included:
-
Collaboration with digital team to build a new webpage to showcase the team and the goals of the expedition.
-
Press outreach garnering more than 100 media articles in outlets including The Guardian, The New Indian Express, Hindustan Times and the United News of Bangladesh.
In 2019, I also led marketing and communications efforts for a global innovation challenge to identify alternatives to single-use plastic. I helped raise awareness of and recruited nearly double our goal of applicants for the challenge using a combination of earned, owned and paid media strategies, including:
-
Developed a toolkit of marketing and communications materials that I distributed to key partners around the world.
-
Press outreach garnering more than 60 media articles in outlets including The Washington Post.
-
Successful announcement of 24 finalists in the challenge.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
From 2016-2019, I had the priviledge of managing communications and publicity for the National Geographic Photo Ark. This included:
-
Pitching media articles to profile the project, including securing a CBS 60 Minutes feature on the project that reached 11.7 million viewers.
-
As a result of the 60 Minutes segment, National Geographic saw huge impact, including selling 11,000 copies of the National Geographic Photo Ark book the week following the segment.
-
This sales volume made the National Geographic Photo Ark book the top book on Amazon.com and the number two bestselling nature book of 2018.
In 2018, I developed and executed the external communications strategy for a USD $1 million partnership between National Geographic and Microsoft. Results included:
-
Engaging our partners and a PR agency to help drive media and influencer outreach, garnering 65 media articles across three continents in outlets including Venturebeat.
-
The social media coverage reached a potential audience of 11.8 million, including Tweets from key influencers and executive-level stakeholders.
-
This strategy expanded the positive perception of both Microsoft and National Geographic by highlighting their commitment to building a more sustainable future
